One of the many fun aspects of creating comics is the opportunity to promote (and hopefully SELL!) your work at conventions and shows. I’ve been fortunate to have been able to exhibit at number of shows, bith here in NYC and across the country. It’s always a fun time, I seen some incredible work, and met some wonderful people along the way.

My first show!
This was my first time exhibiting at the Small Press Expo (aka SPX). My buddy Tony Breed (of ‘Finn & Charlie are Hitched’ & ‘Muddlers Beat’ fame, among others) was kind enough to invite me to share his table. IMine was a rather bare-bones display, as I was still getting the hang of doing shows. My first ‘Casey at the Bat’ collection at the show.

Crossed the country from NYC to Los Angeles (okay, Burbank) to exhibit at LGBTQ comic show, Bent Con. Had a great time and met some wonderful comic creators. Bent Con

With hockey buddy Jeff Adams (‘Hat Trick’, ‘The Big Gay Fiction Podcast’). Rainbow Book Fair
When I made the decision to begin exhibiting at comic shows I didn’t anticipate doing as much traveling I wound up doing. Maryland, California, and Texas in eight months. It was a fun time, I was happy that my next show was at home in New York City with my hockey buddy Jeff Adams (‘Hat Trick’) at the Rainbow Book Fair. We were quickly dubbed “the gay sports guys”. It works. Jeff and his husband Will host a podcast about gay literary fiction. It’s great stuff. You can find Jeff and Will at jeffandwill.com.

As 2015 turned to summer I stayed closer to home, with my next show at Brooklyn’s beautiful (the interior, anyway) Grand Prospect Hall.
Headed north in September for the inaugural Topatocon comic show in Easthampton, MA. (Yes, ‘m traveling again). I was was set up outside the main ballroom, along with several other folks, but a good time was still had. I even got to meet some of my comic heroes (I’m looking at you Jacques).
When Tim Fish offered me the opportunity to share his table at New York Comic Con’s Artist Alley in October, I jumped. I had a great time hanging out with Tim and Monica Gallagher. I learned A LOT. Great folks, both of ’em.
MoCCA – New York, NY – Apr 2016
Another bucket-list show went in the books when I exhibited at the MoCCA (Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art) Arts Festival. It’s always an outstanding show, and I was honored to have the opportunity to exhibit.

RAINBOW BOOK FAIR – New York, NY – Apr 2016
Another fun show, the Rainbow Book Fair goes beyond comics to include a wide variety of LGBTQ+ art and literature. Flying solo this time around.

My second Flame Con included the debut of my second collection of ‘Casey at the Bat’ comics. It was a major personal milestone. An added bonus was seeing comic pals Jay Fuller and Tony Breed again. Great guys.

It was an honor to be invited to exhibit at the Geeks Out booth at New York Comic Con. There were some great artist’s names on the schedule. New York Comic Con | Geeks Out

My better half joins me at my second SPX. Yes, Tony Breed was there as well. It’s a tradition! SPX Small Press Expo
It’s not easy creating comics and traveling to exhibit them. Fortunately, I have the best support system with my husband, Tim. He’s the one who makes sure I’m ready come showtime and haven’t forgotten anything. He’s not with me at every show, but it’s always more fun when he’s there.

My third Flame Con, this time in NYC.
Flame Con remains a fun show to exhibit at and browse the works at the other tables. Lots of great art being done by some swell artists.

My return to MoCCA was… interesting, to say the least. My table-mate (Mike something…?) was an illustrator with an… interesting marketing style. One of the untold hazards of the Half-Table. How bad did it get? I found myself “booth-barnacling” Brad Guigar (‘Evil Inc’, ‘Comic Lab’) just to get away from my tablemate. Maybe this is why I stopped doing shows.

After a 4 year Con hiatus, I made my return at this small show held at NYC’s LGBT Center. It was fun, but I was a bit rusty and didn’t have anything new to promote. NYC Queer Comic Fair
Four years after the “Crap” show (as I’ve come to call it), I signed up for the Queer Comic Fair at New York City’s LGBT Community Center. It was a solid show with artists making the most of a VERY small space. I scored a corner spot and a window!

Real life interrupted Casey comics for a while, resulting in only two comics being produced over the next two years (the 2021 Christmas comic and the 300th Anniversary comic in late 2022). Still, I decided to exhibit at the QCF to get myself drawing again. I met some fine folks (Greg Lockard ‘Liebestrasse’ and Salvatore Marrone ‘No More Mermaids’), oddly taking no photos (sorry). I picked up some swell books, and … didn’t draw another comic for a year and a half. But that’s a whole different story.
